Bro. William “Joe” Godfrey
Bro. William “Joe” Godfrey is a dedicated servant of the Lord, currently serving as the pulpit minister at Gaines Avenue Church of Christ since May 2018. Born in Valdosta, Georgia, to Charlie Eugene Godfrey and Vivian Godfrey, Bro. Godfrey was added to the Body of Christ at the age of eight. He grew up in the church, attending the Newsome Street Church of Christ in Hahira, Georgia, where his father served as the minister.
A graduate of Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics, Bro. Godfrey later pursued a Juris Doctorate from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. He is a practicing attorney at his law firm in Albany, GA, where he serves his community both spiritually and professionally.
Bro. Godfrey is married to Sis. Dominie Godfrey, a graduate of Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. She works as a staff accountant at F&W Forestry Services. The Godfreys are blessed with three children: Ahrey, Cason, and Marlee.
As the pulpit minister, Bro. Godfrey has brought spiritual leadership, revitalizing various ministries within the church. He has notably revived the young men and women Bible classes and established the Millennium ministry, which has collaborated with River Road Inc. to support faith-based community activities. Under his leadership, one elder and two deacons have been ordained, further strengthening the church’s leadership team.

Since joining Gaines Avenue Church of Christ, Bro. Godfrey has revitalized many areas of church life and ministry. Under his leadership, the young men and women Bible classes were re-established, providing an environment for spiritual growth and discipleship among the youth. He also founded the Millennium Ministry, a faith-based initiative working in partnership with River Road Inc. to deliver impactful community outreach and service.
Bro. Godfrey’s leadership is marked by his ability to empower others. He has overseen the ordination of one elder and two deacons, further strengthening the church’s leadership team. His vision is one of growth, unity, and outreach as he leads Gaines Avenue to fulfill its mission of spreading the Gospel, building relationships, and serving the community.
