Bro. William “Joe” Godfrey is a dedicated servant of the Lord, currently serving as the minister at Gaines Avenue Church of Christ since May 2018. Born in Valdosta, Georgia, to Charlie Eugene Godfrey and Vivian Godfrey, Bro. Godfrey was added to the Body of Christ at the age of eight. He grew up in the church, attending the Newsome Street Church of Christ in Hahira, Georgia, where his father served as the minister.
A graduate of Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics, Bro. Godfrey later pursued a Juris Doctorate from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. He is a practicing attorney at his law firm in Albany, GA, where he serves his community both spiritually and professionally.
Bro. Godfrey is married to Sis. Dominie Godfrey, a graduate of Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. The Godfreys are blessed with three children: Ahrey, Cason, and Marlee.
Leadership and Impact:
As the minister, Bro. Godfrey has brought spiritual leadership, revitalizing various ministries within the church. He has notably revived the young men and women Bible classes and established Benevolence ministry, where the food needs of those in the community are met. Under his leadership, three elders and two deacons have been ordained, further strengthening the church’s leadership team.
Bro. Godfrey’s Vision for Gaines Avenue:
- Strengthening the Family of Faith – Bro. Godfrey emphasizes building strong spiritual foundations through Bible classes and personal development for all ages.
- Community Engagement – The Benevolence Ministry exemplifies his passion for connecting faith with action, providing resources and support for those in need within the community.
- Leadership Development – With the ordination of church leaders, Bro. Godfrey fosters an environment where new leaders are raised up to guide the congregation and continue the work of Christ.
